Confession: I am a tree hugger. I’ll go outside in the dead of winter and hold on to a tree in my backyard because it grounds me. It may seem crazy but there are real benefits to it! But I’m not here to convince you to become a tree hugger. I’m here to share what trees taught me about living a connected and fulfilled life.
A fulfilled life needs roots
Our purpose starts somewhere inside us. If you’ve held onto a dream for years, it might have deep roots in the very fibre of your being. Other dreams might be freshly starting and the roots are tender and small. Let yourself dream and explore different ideas just like a root grows in different directions to find a source of nutrients for the future tree.
No matter what size your dream is, or how long you’ve held onto it, a dream is part of you and the roots feed off of what you offer it. Are you living with a spirit of abundance and gratitude, or are you living with a spirit of scarcity? Your roots will be nourished if you approach life from a perspective of abundance. Everybody is worthy of achieving their dreams, including you.
Allow your dream to strengthen inside of you and don’t give up on it. Even if you haven’t reached your goal yet, the roots can still grow inside. The journey is where we feel the fulfilled life most.
Letting your dream grow strong
When you believe in your dream, you allow it to grow tall, like a strong trunk holding it up. Your belief is what makes the trunk strong and able to weather any storm. Just like a tree trunk slowly grows bigger by adding one ring at a time, we can slowly add strength to our dream by believing in it and in ourselves more and more.
Believing in yourself means you’ll become more resilient to tough times that might make you feel like giving up. You can protect your dream by having strong belief like a tree trunk.
Exploring new opportunities
Imagine you’re following your strong tree trunk up to the very top where all the branches are. These branches are the choices you make and the things you explore and learn while pursuing your dreams. Sometimes, they will go in different directions and some will take you higher. Each branch leads to new discoveries and maybe even lead to new dreams being discovered.
Your branches don’t have to go in one direction and your dream doesn’t have to stay the same either. You can keep improving your dream as you learn and grow in life. That’s the beauty of it being your dream!
Let your actions and choices take you to new places as you discover new things that you love and new things that bring you fulfillment in your life.
Sharing a fulfilled life
Everybody has unique dreams and passions that fulfill them. Once you discover your dreams and you believe in them and start to achieve them, you can share what you’ve learned. Someone else might be starting to work on their goal and you can provide support for them. Cheer them on when they need an extra boost.
Imagine this as the leaves of your tree, providing shade and beauty for others. We can all work towards reaching our goals and we can achieve them while also empowering and supporting each other. There is enough abundance to go around for everyone!
