Fear is Natural
We’ve all experienced it—the dreadful fear that hits us when we step out of our comfort zone to try something new for the first time—or the tenth time. Maybe you couldn’t get as far as stepping out of your comfort zone and you’re frozen somewhere on the edge. If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not alone!
Even I’ve been there and sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is remember that it’s natural to feel fear. But even though it’s a very natural experience, there are still things you can do to step out of fear and continue achieving the dreams you believe in. Use this guide to help you improve your mindset as you overcome fear so you can achieve more.
1 – It’s never too late to start achieving
There is no such thing as “too late” if you’re getting started on your dream. Yes, others may have reached their dream before you but that doesn’t mean you can’t reach yours. Ultimately, it doesn’t matter where you start because you’re doing it for you, not for anybody else.
2 – Never be ashamed of what you achieve
Don’t be afraid to be proud of what you’ve done, no matter how big or small it is! If you’re happy that you accomplished something, celebrate it and find others who will celebrate with you. You don’t need to belittle your achievements out of embarrassment or worse—comparison—to someone else’s bigger achievement. What you accomplish is always worth celebrating if it was something you worked hard for.
3 – If you don’t have a skill, learn it
There is no reason why you can’t achieve anything you set your mind to. If you don’t have a certain skill, all it means is that you will have to learn the skill. You might have to work at it a bit harder and maybe a bit longer but anyone can learn a new skill. If something interests you, you should learn it.
People don’t achieve because they feel they don’t know how or where to start. Learning a new skill can happen at any time and if you think you’re too old to start something new, please refer to number 1 again.
4 – Where you are now is not where you’ll always be
You may feel like you haven’t made any progress or that you haven’t achieved as much as you hoped you would. It’s okay to feel discouraged, but don’t forget that you are always looking at your life from one specific point in time and you don’t know what tomorrow holds. Every day is progress.
Keep moving forward because you will get there one day. You won’t always be where you are today and one day you’ll look back with surprise at all the progress you made.
5 – Failure isn’t the end, you will achieve again
If you’ve failed in the past, what did you learn from the situation? I’m sure you learned a lot. I know I always learn a lot when I fail. Many people let their fear of failure get in the way of achievements and it’s the wrong way to look at it. Your failures can teach you so much and it isn’t the end, don’t let your fear of failure stop you from taking risks as you move forward.
6 – Your failure doesn’t define you
If you do fail, you are not a failure for life. Your failure does not define you. Don’t let anybody tell you otherwise. Failure is a guide you can use to get back in the right direction. It doesn’t mean you or your life is a failure. You’re learning and growing so be kind with yourself and help others understand the truth about failure too.
7 – Success is not a destination
We all have goals and dreams that lead us to what we consider a successful life. These are great things to work for but if you are focused only on what things will be like in the future, you might miss the most enjoyable part—the journey. Don’t view success as a destination that you can never quite reach. Instead, view success as a journey that you are constantly discovering as you become more connected to yourself. You are finding new successes each day and that is a win!
8 – Achieve your dream, then find a new one
When you reach your goal or your dream, enjoy the achievement as you keep your eyes open for new opportunities to learn and grow. Your journey isn’t over and you can always find new things to enjoy. Be curious and open to new experiences that come your way. You can always find new ways to grow.
9 – Stay true to yourself
When you are working in the day to day grind of your dream, it can be easy to forget who you are in the process. Staying true to your values is more important than any amount of success. Stay grounded in who you are and what you believe in.
Your journey is your achievement
No matter how much you achieve in life or what path you take, the biggest achievement you make is that you kept going. No matter what bumps come up along the way (and there will be bumps) you can continue achieving whatever you dream and believe in because you are not going to quit. You’re in it for the long game. Create your dream, believe in that dream and then get out there and achieve it!
